WHAT IS EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY??

Horses have played a significant role throughout human history in the areas of work, war, transportation, sport, and recreation. In a therapeutic setting, horses provide a natural opportunity to develop a client's work ethic, responsibility, assertiveness, communication, and ability to form and maintain healthy relationships.
Eagala is the leading international nonprofit association for professionals incorporating horses to address mental health and personal development needs. Take the Rein Counseling Center is part of the growing Eagala global network of certified mental health professionals and equine specialists in over 40 countries committed to collaboration and dedicated to the vision of every person around the world having access to Eagala Model services. The Eagala Model is an innovative, ethical set of best practices that builds on the human/horse connection to help people learn more about themselves and to use that learning to change their lives.

Benefits: reduced anxiety and depressed mood, increase self-esteem, build social skills, better impulse control, and increased problem-solving skills.

Do we ride horses? All activities are done on the ground. No riding is involved.
Physical limitations? You must be able to move around freely in and around a horse arena. A cane or walker is fine.

How to prepare? Activities take place outdoors, so wear weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. We also recommend to bring a water bottle.
